Instructions for using the template
Enter data in the white cells
Yellow cells are self-calculating.
The template you purchase comes with sample data to show you how the template works. Delete this sample data (don’t delete the ITEM names—GENERAL CONDITIONS, REMOVALS, etc) to create a “clean” template and save it as “Master” or what ever name you wish to call it. You will now have two templates—the one you purchased and the Master. Keep the one you purchased in case you need a new Master or to refer back to the sample information it contains.
To begin an estimate, open your Master template.
“Save As” the template with the job name.
Enter pertinent data such as job name and location, estimate date, file name and location so you can find it later. Rows can be inserted to add more general information as needed.
Move down past the SUMMARY pages to the ESTIMATE-Sitework portion of the template. The General Conditions ITEM deals with mobilization, permit fees, layout costs. Fill in the blanks and watch it self calculate the price. (Note: If you like to work your mobilization and permit costs out in greater detail, either insert more rows, or move down to the next ITEM to do your estimate.
Remember that any ITEM can be named and used for any item of work that you want to use it for. However, if you change the ITEM names (GENERAL CONDITIONS, REMOVALS, BUILDING PADS, SUBGRADE, etc), you have to make sure that the SUMMARY sheet headings and descriptions match the new names you have given the sections.
At the bottom of the SITEWORK portion of the template, the Labor & Equipment column E, the Materials and Subs column F, the Markup column G, and the Sitework Total column H auto-add , with a cross-check in column C which should match the Sitework Total column H.
The UNDERGROUND UTILITIES section of the template is set up in the Unit Price format. You enter the unit material cost for each line item, add that to your estimate of your L&E cost for installation and enter your Installed Price in column F. The spreadsheet does your calculations for you.
